Delaine Mathieu, former presenter of News 4, gives an update on real estate

“My sister is a very successful real estate agent in North Texas. I just felt like it seemed to tick a lot of boxes. I knew I wanted to be independent. I knew I wanted to be around great people. I always wanted to help people. It was an easy transition out of the news. I also knew that my other passion was architecture and design and that seemed natural to me.

What has been the experience so far?

“It’s very difficult when you’re competing against thousands of agents. And I think there’s a misconception that ever since I was on the air it would be super easy to get all kinds of jobs. I had to win every customer. I have to know what I’m doing so I really invested in a lot of education. It was work. It’s really hard work. I accept this. I am ready to take on challenges. It’s extremely rewarding and I really like not having to wear heels every day.

What do you like most about your new job?

“I love meeting new people, walking into their homes and meeting them without a camera on their shoulders. One of the first dates I went on was a lovely woman who was going through a tough divorce. She was in tears. She needed help. She needed to sell her house because that was what she could live on. If there had been a camera there, there was no way she would tell me. It’s a beautiful thing to get to know people on a whole different level.

How would you compare your new job to the present?

“The pace is a bit different. I am my own boss. I determine my hours, my holidays, how badly I want it, what I have to do to achieve my goal. The difference is that news is teamwork. In real estate, it’s up to you. The news is very structured in your day and you work for a company. You don’t take vacations in February, May, July, or November because those are ranking months. My two daughters’ birthdays are in February, the highest ratings period in the news in my opinion. Now I participate in athletic competitions and events. I’m completely immersed in their lives when I haven’t been able to in years.

Do you miss writing?

“I miss people. In general, the people you work with become like family. When you leave the TV news, you don’t interact as often as you do every day. I miss them. Heart and soul. I miss the soul of this newsroom. . The producers, editors, anchors and reporters and the people you felt like you knew on a cellular level, I miss that part. I don’t miss being at I don’t miss the hustle and bustle. Literally nothing has been left unchecked for me in the TV news. I’ve had a fabulous career. I’m in a great place and I know that they are too.

Mathieu says she stays in touch with her former co-host Randy Beamer. She tells MySA that they text each other from time to time and comment on each other’s posts on social media.

As for what’s next, Mathieu says she’s “perfectly happy with the road I’m on right now.” She says the future is bright and looks good.
